ARTIST STATEMENT
My work begins with attention. I spend long periods simply looking — watching slowly and patiently until a subject begins to reveal itself more fully. These moments cannot be forced; they emerge quietly when the eye settles and the world is allowed to speak.
Light is the catalyst for that revelation. I am especially drawn to the moments when light passes through a petal and reveals its translucency — when a bloom seems to glow softly from within. In those fleeting instants, an ordinary subject takes on a new presence, as though something hidden has briefly surfaced.
I have always believed that the smallest details hold the greatest depth. The delicate edge of a petal, the subtle shift between light and shadow, the fragile architecture of a stem — these quiet elements carry a surprising intensity when we take the time to truly see them. For me, painting is a way of honouring those details.
The compositions themselves are intentionally restrained. Often a single bloom or small arrangement occupies the canvas, surrounded by space and stillness. This simplicity allows the viewer to pause and enter the painting slowly, experiencing the same quiet attentiveness from which the work emerged.
At times, this act of looking leads to something deeper — a moment that feels quietly numinous. Light, form, and stillness align in a way that feels almost like a small portal opening within the ordinary world. Those are the moments that stop me. And those are the moments I paint.
